REGULATIONS

 

A – GENERAL MANAGEMENT

     1. In these regulations, the word ‘Committee’, shall mean the Committee of the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts.

     2. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.

     3. Programming positions will be strictly adhered to. Variation to the order of performance will NOT be considered for Music and Dance.

     4. In OWN CHOICE competitions, marks will be awarded for quality of selections.

 

B – BREACH OF REGULATION

     5. Any competitor deemed to be in breach of a section’s regulations will be furnished with an Adjudicator’s Report containing comments only.

  

C – ENTRIES            

     6. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the full fee as per Schedule – see page 6,10,19.

     7. Entries should be on the Official Entry Form and may not be accepted unless ALL particulars are provided.

     8. All entries close with the CONVENERS on Friday 9th March, 2012. Entries should be on the Official Form, accompanied by the appropriate

         Entry Fees.

     9. SEPARATE Entry Forms must be used for each competitor and for separate divisions of the Festival.

   10. Competitors will facilitate the work of the Conveners by writing the correct Section Number and description of each item on the entry form.

         Make sure your Entry Form is completed correctly with Name, Address, Age, Date of Birth and Teacher’s Name. Enclose correct money.

11.  Please facilitate the work of the Conveners by sending entries in early. Do not postpone sending entries until the day of closing, as late

         entries will be returned.

  

D – COMPETITIONS                   

   12. In all competitions which are subject to an age limit, the actual age of the competitor on the date fixed for entry closure, shall be deemed

         as the age of the competitor, except for Dancing Groups and Troupes for which 1st January 2012 shall be used for the age of the

         competitor.

   13. No competitor will be allowed to perform the same item in more than one section, unless otherwise stated.

   14. The attention of competitors in ALL SECTIONS is drawn to the specified TIME LIMITS, which will be strictly enforced.

   15. Due to time commitments or unnecessary repetition, the Adjudicator may ‘ring off’ a competitor before completion of the performance.

         This does not necessarily signify disapproval or rejection.

   16. Competitors should provide their own accompanist. If an accompanist is required, see ACCOMPANISTS, page 10 of the schedule.

   17. No teacher will be allowed on stage with a competitor unless as an accompanist and no person shall be allowed to conduct, instruct or

             otherwise assist competitors other than Choirs, Concert or Big Bands.

   18. All competitors in Championship Sections must enter and perform in their corresponding age or open sections. (Restricted sections not

         accepted.)

   19. Props MUST be kept to a MINIMUM and be portable and capable of being handled by the stage hands. All props must be removed from the

          precincts of the stage at the conclusion of each session.

   20. Persons required to manipulate props or to play music will be allowed in the stage wings, but only during the performance involving them.

   21. Tape recorders may be provided by the competitor, but MUST be operated from the area provided by the Committee.

   22. A CD player ONLY will be provided by the Committee for Music and Dance Sections.

   23. Competition is limited to students up to 20 years of age in all sections, excepting those that are specified as including adults.

   24. Adult sections for Vocal, Instrumental, Choral and Dance have been included.

   25. Sections may be split if warranted by the number of entries.

   28. Please advise on your Entry Form if wheelchair access to the stage is required.

 

E – CHORAL

   29. Choir numbers MUST be adhered to (with a leeway of 3 persons either side). See regulation B above. NB. This leeway does NOT apply to

         Small Vocal Ensembles/Groups.

 

F – AGE

   30. Age for competitors is the ACTUAL AGE at Entry Closing Date, Friday 9th March, 2012, except for Dance Groups and Troupes, for which the

         age shall be deemed as the age at 1st January 2012. (Duos and Trios are not categorized as Groups nor Troupes.)

 

G – TIME LIMITS

   31. Time limits have been specified throughout this schedule. In fairness to all, and in the interest of accurate programming, PLEASE COMPLY

         WITH THESE LIMITS. Competitors exceeding these limits risk not being adjudicated after expiry of time, or being rung off.

   32. A timer will be used for the Festival.

 

H – PRIZES

   33. The Adjudicator’s decision is final and he/she will have the power to withhold or divide prizes according to merit. He/she shall also be

         entitled to recommend the awarding of a second prize if the performance has not sufficient merit to carry first prize, but he/she shall

         intimate his/her decision when making such adjudication.

   34. In individual items, unless there are three, or more, competitive entries, no second place need be awarded. The Adjudicator may, if he/she

         thinks fit, and with the consent of the Committee, award a special prize in respect of any section.

   35. In any section where one or two competitors are obviously left out, an Encouragement Award may be issued.

   36. In any competition where two prizes are offered, if the Adjudicator decides that two or more competitors are of equal merit, the two said

         prizes may be added and the amount equally divided among such competitors

 

I – PROTESTS

   37. Protests shall be lodged with the CONVENER, in writing, within one hour after the completion of the relevant section and must be

         accompanied by a deposit of $10.00, which shall be forfeited if the protest is deemed to be frivolous or unfounded.

   38. The DECISION of the Committee in ALL questions arising out of, or not provided for by these regulations, shall be FINAL.

   39. The Committee reserves, to itself, the right of determining the status of any competitor and of applying and interpreting these rules.

   40. Competitors will be regarded as being conversant with the rules of Competition of the Society affecting their positions as competitors. ‘Lack

         of knowledge’ will not be accepted as a bona fide reason for infringement of any Regulation, and in the event of any protest being lodged

         the competitor or infringing person will be liable to disqualification and may only receive a report.

   41. ALL competitors compete entirely at their OWN RISK.

 

J – CAMERAS

   42. Flashlight cameras are NOT to be used during performances.

   43. Video cameras are NOT to be used during the DANCE SECTIONS. NB: The services of a professional photographer and video taker are

         available, at a reasonable cost, for these sections.
